Bishop Kukah Ordains three (3) Priests, Dedicates the Holy Family Cathedral

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah ordained three priests: Rev Fr. Mokwe Joseph Nnamdi, Rev Fr, Ajibo Festus Okechukwu and Rev Fr. Omotosho Christopher Adewale at the Holy Family Cathedral Ahmadu Bello way, Sokoto state on 8th December, 2017.

Ohaneze Ndigbo, pays a courtesy visit to Bishop Kukah.

The Igbo socio-cultural group (Ohaneze Ndigbo) paid a courtesy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto in his office- St. Bakhita Catholic Secretariat today.

Chief Dr. John Nnia Nwodo, the President General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo said that the visit was to express their resolve for Peace and unity in Nigeria.

The Igbo socio-cultural group who went in numbers expressed their belief in the unity of the country.

The President of the group appreciated the effort of the Bishop in maintaining peace and unity of the Country.

Bishop Kukah consecrates Sokoto Diocese to the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Rt. Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah has consecrated Diocese of Sokoto to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the church concludes Marian Year today.

During the ceremony, Bishop Kukah prayed for Our Lady's intercession for the clergy, the religious and the laity for God's guidance and protection. Included in the prayer of dedication also are other Christians, Muslims and the peoples of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kebbi states that make up Sokoto Diocese.

Grand Finale eve for the celebration of the 2017 Marian Year in the Diocese started with a Rosary Procession.

Rev Fr. Joseph Ekwoanya on the Eve of the Grand Finale of the Marian year at Holy Family Cathedral, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto while addressing the Catholic Faithfuls said that "The message of Fatima is Simple and yet Profound".

"Fatima apparition is surely the most prophetic apparitions today. The apparition of Fatima closely and critically looked at, possess the characteristics of an authentic private revelation".

Happy 65th Birthday, Bishop Kukah - Sokoto Diocese

Today marks the 65th birthday of the Local Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah. Bishop Kukah who has served as the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese since 2011 was born on August 31, 1952 in Anchuna, Ikulu Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna State.

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto wish Bishop Kukah happy 65th birthday and more fruitful years as he serves in the vineyard of God.

Sokoto Diocese celebrates Marian Year in Deaneries

The 2017 Marian Year as proclaimed by the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) which was flagged of in the Dioceses across the nation was recently celebrated at deanery levels of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto during the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Tuesday, 15th of August.

The celebration of the Marian Year in the various deaneries started with a Rosary Procession, Confession and then the Holy Mass.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director, Mr. Stephen M Haykin today paid a courtesy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah in his office at St. Bakhita Secretariat, Sokoto State.

Mr. Haykin with his entourage who also met with the Diocesan Justice Development Peace and Caritas (JDPC) team lauds the community development initiative of the organization especially the "Feed the Future" programme.

Bishop Kukah confirms 70 Candidates on Feast of Pentecost

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Kukah has administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to Seventy (70) Candidates during the celebration of the Feast of Pentecost at Holy Family Cathedral today.

Rev Fr, Patrick Alumuku ‘the communication director of Abuja Archdiocese’  during the homily gave a brief explanation of what the Pentecost is all about and why it's been commemorated.

PMS constructs playground for Holy Family Schools, Sokoto

The Pontifical Mission Society (PMS) has built a playground for Holy Family Schools, Sokoto in the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

The facility was today officially handed over to the proprietor of the Schools, Most Rev Dr. Matthew Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese by the PMS Director, Rev. Sr. Sylvalin.

Bishop Kukah in his remarks appreciated PMS for their contribution to the school and education in the State while calling on the government in Northern Nigeria to be more committed to Education.

Bishop Kukah, Legionaries visits the sick on Easter Sunday

To express the Easter joy, The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Dr. Matthew Kukah with Legion of Mary Society, Sokoto Diocese today visited patients in two health centres: Federal Neuro-psychiatric Hospital Kware LGA and Amanawa Leprosarium.

The annual visitation which witnessed its fourth year was led by Bishop Kukah and Bro Emmanuel Igono, City of Refuge Comitium President.

The team which was well received at both hospitals donated relief items to the in-patients.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Kukah has urged Christian faithful to be men and women of the gospel that the work of God is not only for the clergy and religious.

This he said during his visit to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambu for Cathedraticum today.

Bishop Kukah said he came for two reasons: "To celebrate the Eucharist with the Faithful in this deanery and to collect what they have for him which would be put into the diocesan purse after which it would be shared to all the parishes in the Diocese".

Meningitis Coordinator: Rev Sr. Christy Umeadi died in auto crash

Ever before the outbreak of meningitis that has claimed several lives in over 16 states and still counting, the health department of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, headed by REV. Sr. Christiana Umeadi OP(now late) were proactive and had begun their routine immunization against this dreadful disease.

In the last one month Late Sr. Umeadi and her medical team have covered several parts of Sokoto diocese which comprises: Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi. And as the outbreak got worse the health team intensified their effort.
