To commemorate Valentine’s Day 2017, the Family & Human Life Unit (FHL) of St. Kevin Catholic Church, Diocese of Sokoto hosted Catholic, Non-Catholic, and Muslim Families in the State to a dinner party at St. Bakhita Secretariat.
The celebration which was in her second edition was graced by His Lordship Most Rev Dr Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev Dr. Mathew Kukah, advised inmates of Sokoto State Prison not to be bittered in serving their punishment but pray God for grace.
Addressing the Prison inmates on Christmas day 2016, Bishop Kukah said: "You are here because you broke the law, if you are here, you must be law abiding. When you behave well, you will be rewarded".
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Mathew Kukah said he hopes for when religion will no longer be a tool of fear, "Aisha marrying whomever she wants whether his name is Abdullahi or Patrick, and that Cecilia will marry whomever she wants whether the husband is Philip, whether he is Abubakar". He said "If we don't overcome our fears, we cannot build a Country.
In a beautiful gathering last night at the Holy Family Cathedral, Most Rev Mathew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, celebrated a pontifical high Mass to mark his 40th years in priestly service.
The Holy Mass was followed by a reception where the cheerful faithful of the Diocese of Sokoto and well wishers were treated to delicacies and entertainment.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Excellency, Most Rev. Mathew Hassan Kukah will be forty years as a Catholic Priest on 19 December 2016. This man of God needs no introduction in Nigeria. The quintessential ecclesiastical and elder statesman is a remarkable Nigerian who has stood tall in both spiritual and secular affairs.
Gidan Mai kanbu held her first inter-faith service between Christians and Muslims of Kafur and Bakori Local Governments. The Chairman of all Imams in Katsina State who is from Bakori Local Government preached from the Muslim Faith while Rev Fr Patrick Etuk MSP preached from the Christian Faith. Both homilies were simply edifying.
Most Rev Matthew Kukah, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto who was represented at the event, in his address commended the community on the initiative of interfaith prayer meeting.
Rev Fr Lawrence Agu, a Dominican Priest working in the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has retired from active service. His retirement was celebrated with Holy Mass presided by His Lordship Most Rev Dr Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
In his homily, Bishop Kukah appreciated Fr. Lawrence for his commitment & diligence to service throughout his pastoral years in the Diocese of Sokoto.
Until his retirement, Fr. Lawrence served as the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Gusau.
A group of 30 parishioners from the Diocese of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto have graduated from a two-year catechetics course.
The event which held today 3rd December, 2016 at School of Catechetical Studies Malumfashi witnessed Parishioners from different part of the Diocese and the celebration was presided by Bishop of Kano Diocese, Most Rev. John Nyirin Namaza OSA.
